Searching 1Password

1Password in app search example mockup.

I love 1Password, and use it across all my devices. There’s one thing about it that I’d love to see change — searching. I know you can search in the app across all of your logins, and I’m talking about contextual search when you’re already inside an app and activate 1Password to log in.

Here’s a flow:

  1. I’ve logged in to my bank account using a browser, and 1Password has saved my account login.
  2. I download the bank’s app, and try and use those same credentials via the 1Password in-app interface that pops over.
  3. The app and the website credentials don’t use a matching URL, so there’s no credentials to select. There’s no way for me to get to my actual credentials on this screen.
  4. I have to close the app, open the 1Password app and then search and find the right credentials to copy and paste into the bank’s app.

A simple fix for this would be to include a search bar on this screen, just like in the 1Password app itself. In the case of my credentials not showing up, I can then search for and select the right one.
